IP TRENDS SUMMIT 2006
Following the success of the IP Trends Summit in San Francisco in November
2005, IMS Conferences held a European version of the Summit in
Monte Carlo, Monaco, on May 16th and 17th, 2006.
The Summit focused on the critical issues and practical considerations
surrounding the deployment of IP Video for TV and VOD services to the
living room and to mobile devices, as well as exploring the rollout of Voice-
Over-IP (VoIP).

Paolo Sidoti, Partner, Global IPTV Practice, Accenture
Nicholas Wheeler, Managing Director, ITN Multimedia, ITN’s business that specialises in packaging content specifically for mobile and broadband platforms, and for developing ITN’s interests in this area. Over the past three years Wheeler has overseen the transformation of ITN Multimedia into the market leader for the delivery of video news and entertainment on 3G phones and broadband. He has successfully built business relationships with most of the major phone networks - Vodafone, 3, O2 and television operators ITV News, Channel 4 News and new media companies such as BT Yahoo!, Google and MSN. Wheeler is also chief editor of ITN Radio. Widely renowned as one of the radio industry’s leading figures in news programming, Wheeler is responsible for all ITN’s interests in independent radio, including IRN. Wheeler began his journalistic career in local newspapers in 1972 and moved into radio in 1979 as a news producer at BBC Radio Solent. In 1984 he worked as a news producer for Radio One’s ‘Newsbeat’ and the following year joined Capital Radio to help start the highly successful and popular news programme ‘The Way It Is’. In 1987 Wheeler took control of Capital’s News and Talks Department, pioneering a new style of radio news presentation and, in 1994, he was appointed programme controller to oversee the running of Capital FM and Capital Gold. In the same year, he beat Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme to win the prestigious Sony Award for Best News Programme.
Benjamin Schwarz, Head of International IPTV Deployments, France Telecom. Benjamin Schwarz is a senior executive with 18 years of international experience in consulting and Telco organisations where his innovation and technology leadership help secure positions in emerging markets. He has proven himself an innovative and hands-on manager in internet start-ups. Benjamin has extensive experience in web portals, search engines, music distribution, TV and video services, areas of expertise which all converge. Benjamin joined France Telecom in 2001 where he currently runs international TVoDSL deployments. Before that he was technical lead the first group-wide music distribution platform and prior to that, he managed R&D projects in the information access space. In 2000 Benjamin was CTO of a digital sheet music internet start-up that grew to 200 employees (NASDAQ MMUS). He headed the development of an eCommerce site including a complete DRM. He helped steer the company in complex M&A situations. In 1998 Benjamin founded Intoo, to deliver personalisation solutions within Unilog. Previously at Unilog, where he remained 10 years, Ben headed a think tank where he launched the first KM & VOIP projects.
Paolo Agostinelli, Chief Marketing Officer, FastWeb. Paolo developed his career as a consultant at Bain & Company, where he worked on strategy definition for the key Italian players in the ICT, telco and CRM domains. In 2004 he joined FASTWEB - the leading alternative Italian broadband telecommunications operator - as Chief Marketing Officer for residential and small business services.

Owen Holmström, Business Development Director, Strategic Partnerships, Kreatel, part of Motorola IP Video Solutions. Owen has over16 years of international IT management experience, 6 years with Kreatel. Owen is now focusing on establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with Systems Integrators. Kreatel is the European market leader of IP STB solutions. Successfully deployed by DSL and fiber operators, the Kreatel system secures reliable operation by combining set-top box hardware with sophisticated software.
Jude Umeh, Consultant & Technical Architect, Capgemini. Jude is a member of the Sector Consulting Group within Capgemini's global Telecom Media & Entertainment (TME) community. He has over eight years experience in a variety of technical and strategic roles, and his background and areas of expertise include: music, media & e-business consultancy, digital rights management, project management, as well as recommending and delivering packaged solutions to large organisations. Jude has worked with key music and media industry organisations to help define the future business processes and technologies that will shape their response to an increasingly challenging digital environment. Jude is a chartered member of the British Computer Society (BCS).
Melanie Honnor, Vice President, New Media Europe, Discovery Networks. Melanie has been appointed vice president of new ventures for the Discovery Network’s new media group, based in London. Among other responsibilities, she will oversee the new media revenue generation and new distribution partnerships in Europe. Melanie was previously with Capital Radio Group.
Simon McGrath, Director, Strategy & Development, On Demand Group. Simon is responsible for its future business and technical direction and developing the Group's partnerships and services worldwide. He has 20 years experience in software systems development and the strategic planning of new technology ventures. Prior to joining the Group, Simon was Chief Sales and Communication Officer and Executive Board Member of Lysis SA of Lausanne, Switzerland. He joined Lysis in November 1999 on the acquisition by Lysis of Concision Limited, a company he founded. Prior to founding Concision, Simon worked for Cogent Systems of Denver, USA as a senior business systems analyst and architect. Before Cogent, he worked in strategy consulting at The LEK Partnership in London.
Fintan McKiernan, SVP, Global iIPTV Solutions, Digisoft.TV. Fintan joined DigiSoft.tv from Piercom Ltd where he held the position of Director of Government Services. Over the last three years as SVP of EMEA Sales, Fintan has over seen multiple installations of the DigiHost iTV management platform across Europe and been involved in leading commercial and governmental developments in MHP interactive applications deployed live on air. Fintan was a key driver in the development of the iTVBox (www.itvbox.org) DVB-MHP research and development laboratory, which has dramatically lowered the barrier to R&D in MHP interactive TV. Fintan is now SVP of Global Sales for iIPTV solutions. This role involves leveraging of DigiSoft's existing iTV experience in the rapidly emerging new world of IPTV. Joining the interactive application management capability to IPTV resulting in the delivery of interactive IPTV or iIPTV
Stephen Petheram, Content Marketing Manager, EMEA, Microsoft TV
Alain Nochimowski, Head of DRM Technical Group at Viaccess, a France Telecom Group subsidiary. Before joining Viaccess, Alain held several positions within France Telecom Group and Orange Group, both in Paris and New York. Alain Nochimowski graduated from Ecole des Mines de Paris in 1999.
Christopher Rosebrook, Director, Global Product Management, Irdeto. Christopher is responsible for all communications and branding activities for the company. He joined Irdeto as Product Manager in March 2001, where he was responsible for the development of the company’s Digital TV product line for four years. Prior to that, Christopher held various telecommunications marketing and operations positions at Telfort (Netherlands) and MCI (U.S.A.), as well as doing consultancy work in telecommunications. Christopher holds university degrees in Public Relations and Romance Linguistics.
Holger Ippach, VP, Global Head of IPTV, Nagravision. Holger is responsible for developing solutions and worldwide business relations that will bring secure content protection to TV over IP service operators. A true veteran in the world of delivering video over IP networks, Holger started his career as a technical project manager and later as the technical director in Infomatec. In 2000, he became the CTO of TUXIA., From there, he moved on to Thirdspace Living Ltd, an IPTV system integrator to head up the Open Video Server business unit. He played an active role in the merge of the businesses of Thirdspace and ImagicTV into Alcatel's Fixed Solution Division and became part of Alcatel's ICE Business Unit global management team.
Patrick Fleming, Sales Director, EMEA, Macrovision
Rist Brouwer, VP, SafeNet. Formally CEO of DMDSecure, which was acquired by Safe-Net, Inc. Rist has encountered and implemented systems in all aspects of the DRM/Content Protection value chain from IP Delivery to Mobile to PC. He has been in DRM space for over 6 years and has been involved in many DRM standards and consortia. He has first hand experience with interoperability and compliance issues. Rist possesses the right combination of "vision" to explain the business opportunity of the future of Digital Media Delivery as it is unfolding before our eyes, and the technical wisdom to debate, if necessary, the technical merits of any approach, from a pragmatic viewpoint. Currently he is Vice president at SafeNet. He is also a management team member in the Rights Management BU which has a focus on software and content protection. His responsibility is content protection and in particular business & technology development
Neil Dholakia, Senior Director, Worldwide Architecture, Motive
Meredith Flynn-Ripley, COO, Integra5. Meredith Flynn-Ripley has over 20 years of product marketing and technology sales management experience, with the last 10 years focused exclusively on the marketing and delivery of broadband cable networks, applications and services.
Prior to working with Integra5, Meredith served as president and CEO of three private software Stargus, Seaport Software Solutions and Into Networks. Meredith was a founding member of Road Runner, the high speed data joint venture of Time Warner, MediaOne (now Comcast), Microsoft and Compaq (now HP), where she served as Vice President of Corporate Development. Prior to Road Runner, Meredith was VP of Product Development at MediaOne Broadband Internet Services. Earlier in her career, Meredith held senior management positions at US WEST Communications, including head of Content Strategy for the Interactive Television trial in Omaha. She pioneered the interactive media and technology space starting back in 1985 at Ogilvy & Mather Interactive
Jean-Luc Gustin, Senior VP, Corporate Development, SES Global. Jean-Luc is in charge of the development of the new services for SES Global. SES Global is the largest satellite service providers with fleet covering the entire globe. SES operates under the names of Astra in Europe, Americom in North America & New Skies in rest of the world. Previously, JL Gustin was partner in charge of Telecom & media for Europe, Middle East India & Africa at Deloitte Consulting & Andersen.
Steven Spittaels, Associate Principal, McKinsey & Company
Tom Rosenstein, Vice President of Business Development, SeaChange International, Inc. Tom has been involved in the video and high-technology industries for 20 years, spanning market development, sales and product engineering, including over 10 years of experience in video-on-demand. Currently, he is responsible for SeaChange’s new business development activities, as well as initiating and managing worldwide partnerships, enabling television operators to deploy VOD and other digital services with the broadest array of technology choices available to the market. Before joining SeaChange, he was director of business development for edit and effects powerhouse Avid Technology. Previously, as business development manager for Oracle Corp.’s interactive television division. Early in his career, as an engineer with Digital Equipment Corp.’s, Rosenstein contributed to the early development of VOD and participated in the deployment of the early market efforts to bring VOD and commerce services to television homes. Rosenstein is a member of the Society of Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).
Peter Percosan, Director Broadband Strategy, Texas Instruments. Percosan has served as the director broadband strategy for Texas Instruments cable broadband communications group since the acquisition of Libit Signal Processing in 1999. In this role he provides strategic direction that aligns Texas Instruments technology strengths with the needs of the Cable industry. He is also responsible for identifying market trends and providing the vision to the cable broadband group. Prior to this position, Percosan was the vice president of strategy and business development at Libit Signal Process. Percosan has also served as vice president of strategic marketing, at Lysis SA and vice president of Engineering at Ariel Corporation. Percosan has presented on the Cable Broadband topic at numerous technical seminars and holds several Motorola patents.

Steve McKay, CEO, Entone Technologies. Steve worked with Entone’s founding members in launching the world’s first commercial deployment of Telco Video and video on demand (VOD) services at Hong Kong Telecom. From that deployment, Entone was established to focus on the business case for Enhanced Television services such as VOD and Network Personal Video Recording (nPVR). Today Entone has dozens of worldwide deployments, including the world’s largest deployment of IPTV services at PCCW.

Jacques Bughin, Director, McKinsey & Company. Jacques Bughin is a Director, currently in the McKinsey & Company’s Brussels office. Since joining the Firm by end 1992, he has worked for various offices including Amsterdam, London, Montreal, New York, Rio and Toronto, mostly on projects related to banking and insurance, media, telecom and technology. He has helped clients around the world on media related-issues, especially in the context of cable and broadcasting, music, print media, new media, and the convergence of telecom, mobile, IT and media. Dr. Bughin has authored many McKinsey Quarterly articles. He has lectured at many universities while publishing more than 30 articles in leading academic journals such as Management Science, or European Economic Review. He co-leads the Advisory Board on Media Management at INSEAD.
Indra Asander, Head of Consumer Segment, TeliaSonera
John Blake, Head of Hosted IP Telephony, BT Global Services. John is responsible for the strategy and development of BT Global Services’ Voice over IP (VoIP) portfolio in the UK and across Europe. He is an experienced presenter and is a recognised expert in IP Telephony, he has had numerous articles published in trade journals and is a regularly quoted by industry analysts. John has worked for BT for over 33 years and has been responsible for the successful launch of major IP telephony business solutions, including BT Multimedia VoIP and VoIP Port in UK, IRL, ESP, NL and DE. These products were awarded the networking initiative of the year prize in the Banker Technology Awards. Prior to joining BT Global Services in April 2001, John was responsible for Product Development and in life management of BT's Core Centrex and VPN products, FeatureLine and FeatureNet Embark.

Kurt Sillén, Vice President, Head of Mobility World, Ericsson. Kurt has an extensive background within Ericsson. Currently he is Vice President and head of Ericsson Mobility World, a global organization assisting operators, developers and content providers in defining and launching solutions for traffic and revenue growth. Prior to his current assignment he was Vice President for Marketing of GSM and TDMA systems globally. Before that he initiated and was responsible for the successful introduction of eBusiness activities within Ericsson. Kurt also has an engineering development background, being responsible for the development of the worlds first GSM Base Station and subsequent second generation of GSM Base Stations, products he later became Director of Marketing for. Kurt holds a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelors degree in Economics/ Marketing.
Andreas Mueller-Schubert, President, Fixed Networks Solutions, Siemens AG. In his current role, Mr. Mueller-Schubert is responsible for the product management of the Siemens carrier solution portfolio. He joined Siemens in 1994 and has held various senior positions in Germany and Canada in sales and marketing. Before acquiring his current position, he had profit and loss responsibility for the Americas sales region, covering North and Latin America as well as Spain and Portugal. From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Mueller-Schubert was responsible for the Canadian telecommunications business. As head of the Information and Communication division at Siemens Canada, he directed the Siemens business in the fields of consumer retail products, cell phones, and enterprise and carrier networks solutions. In this capacity, Mr. Mueller-Schubert was also responsible for the Siemens Telecommunication Innovation Center in Ottawa, Ontario
Gary Southwell, General Manager, IPTV Solutions, Juniper Networks. Gary is a networking industry veteran of over 20 years. Gary is responsible for the overall business, which claims significant deployments in the top 2, and 5 of the top 10 IPTV production networks to date. Prior to Juniper Gary Southwell was VP of Solutions development at Ciena, responsible for driving solutions in the enterprise and service provider markets, including developing and launching Ciena’s IPTV solution. Gary came to Ciena via its acquisition of Internet Photonics where he served as VP of Marketing and Development. Internet Photonics was instrumental in enabling MSOs to aggressively roll out VOD and covered network solution deployments over the last 4 years with its low cost zero loss Optical Ethernet solutions. Deployments included 4 of the top 5 MSOs with over 18 Million homes passed. Prior to Internet Photonics, Gary served in leadership roles at Nortel Networks, Bay Networks/Wellfleet Communications and Motorola.
Rob Piconi, VP, GM, Broadband Solutions, Lucent Technologies. Rob Piconi is globally responsible for Lucent's Broadband Solutions and IP Multimedia TV Strategy including Lucent’s leading Broadband Access product portfolio, partnerships and solutions development. While at Lucent, Mr. Piconi has held various Executive and Management roles in Engineering, New Product Introduction, Supply Chain and Product Lifecycle Management across Lucent's Wireless and Wireline product portfolios. Prior to joining Lucent in July of 2000, Mr. Piconi worked 9 years in the Petrochemical industry for Amoco Corporation and British Petroleum, holding various international and domestic roles in engineering, finance and general product management.
Tiaan Schutte, VP, Information, Communication & Entertainment, (ICE), Fixed Solutions, Alcatel. Tiaan Schutte joined Alcatel in 2003. Currently, he is Vice President of Alcatel's Information, Communication and Entertainment (ICE) business unit where he is responsible for Alcatel's global IPTV activities. Prior to his current role, Tiaan held Product Line Management and R&D positions within the ICE group. Prior to joining Alcatel, Tiaan held key management positions at Thirdspace Living (acquired by Alcatel in April 2003), nCUBE Corporation, Broadcast Projects International, Canal Plus Technologies, Mindport MCT and Irdeto.
Sam Fuller, Vice President, Marketing, AMCC. Previous to joining AMCC, Mr. Fuller served as the chairman and president of the RapidIO Trade Association and wrote the leading reference book on RapidIO technology. Mr. Fuller also writes for major publications such as EE Times and speaks frequently at major industry events. Mr. Fuller was also Director of Engineering for Motorola’s Networking and Communications Systems Division. Where he was responsible for the technology direction and architecture teams for Motorola's market leading line of integrated communications processors. Previous to this he managed the PowerPC™ system architecture and planning for Motorola’s Somerset Design Center.

Eric Rosier, Director of Solutions, EMEA, Harmonic. Eric is responsible for driving Harmonic’s market presence and solution innovation. Mr. Rosier has more than 16 years of technical and commercial experience in the Television and IT marketplace. Prior to joining Harmonic, he worked as a Platform Marketing Manager at Canal+ Technologies, in charge of MediaHighway and MediaGuard products. Previously, he headed up product and development teams at Thomson and Thales.
Sebastian Moeritz, President, MPEGIF, CEO, dicas digital image coding GmbH. Sebastian is an entrepreneur with an extensive business experience in a number of international markets. Since 1996 he has been involved in a number of information technology related ventures and joined dicas, a developer of real-time video coding solutions, based in Germany, as its CEO in the beginning of 2001. dicas is an MPEG-focused video coding specialist and a leading developer of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, MPEG-4 and 3GPP compliant real-time video coding solutions providing the industry with the highest quality core technology for digital video. Sebastian is the President of the MPEG Industry Forum (MPEGIF). He is also the co-author of the book "Understanding MPEG-4 - Technology and Business Insights".
Giles Wilson, Chief Architect, TANDBERG Television. Dr. Giles Wilson joined TANDBERG Television in 1995 (then the Advanced Products Division of NTL) where he has worked in a number of product and system development roles. He is currently the Chief Architect at TANDBERG Television and has spent the last 4 years leading the development of solutions based on advanced video compression technologies. Dr Wilson’s work with AVC has resulted in TANDBERG Television’s award-winning solutions for VC-1 and MPEG-4 AVC standard definition and high definition encoding technologies. These world-first solutions have cemented his reputation as one of the foremost engineering experts in the digital media industry.
Matt West, VP, Mobile Media Worldwide, Alcatel. Matt joined Alcatel’s PacketVideo Network Solutions (pvNS) in February 2005 as VP Mobile Media Worldwide. Matt’s role is to work with media and content companies to help in the enablement and launch of innovative revenue generating mobile media video and audio services. Previously, Matt was Director of enhanced TV for chellomedia (UPC) interactive services, where he had responsibility for enhanced TV activity throughout Europe. Matt has extensive broadcast experience, prior to chello he was Head of Sales for ntl Broadcast (media solutions), where for 5 years he oversaw ntl’s portfolio of solutions for major UK, US and European broadcasters. Matt has also spent 18 months in the US interactive TV environment working on sales and business development strategies.
Shlomo Wolfman, Co-Founder & COO, Starhome. As co-founder, COO and former CTO of Starhome, Shlomo Wolfman leverages his extensive knowledge of telephony and IP technologies, and switching and service architectures in various areas of telecommunications networks.Wolfman has over 23 years experience in real-time telecommunications systems, and has led product development, R&D, marketing and business development teams at leading technology companies such as Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:CMVT), VDOnet Inc. and Tadiran Telecom Ltd.

Stephen Reeder, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, ANT. Stephen Reeder, Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, ANT Plc.Stephen leads ANT’s commercial strategy. He has 18 years’ technical and commercial experience in the telecommunications and IT marketplace. Previously, Stephen headed up new product development for Concert’s ASP hosting business, after joining from BT where he had held various commercial and technical roles in the Cable TV Services and Consumer Products Divisions. Prior to joining ANT, Stephen was an account director at Lucent Technologies in the areas of optical transport and voice over IP products.
Yosi Glick, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Business Development, Orca Interactive. Yosi heads the product analysis and business development division for Orca's products applications. Prior to joining Orca in September 2000, he headed the IPTV activities of Oracle Israel, working with local telcos and cable operators. Yosi began his career with Accenture (previously Anderson Consulting).
Olivier Wellmann, Head of Product Marketing, EMEA, OpenTV. Olivier’s responsibilities include marketing, customer and sales supports, market analysis and most importantly to assure that OpenTV's solution are in line with commercial requirements as well as product planning cycle for European customers. Previously, Olivier was Senior Product Manager for OpenTV's Enterprise Solution where he participated in the development and launch of these products. Prior to joining OpenTV, Olivier was Customer Knowledge Manager with Singularis. Prior to this enriching experience, Olivier worked in Frankfurt, Germany, with the strategic department of Wunderman and Young & Rubicam one of the leading worldwide advertising powerhouse. He consulted numerous pan-European advertisers as Ford, Procter & Gamble or IBM on customer relationship management, data mining and interactive marketing.

Philippe Lambinet, CEO, ADB. Philippe is responsible for leading the growth and expansion of ADB, whilst remaining focused on the timely development of cost effective and innovative products. Philippe also oversees the planning, development and implementation of the company's overall product and business strategies. Philippe joined ADB in April 2001 and has led the evolution of the company from a pure pay TV set-top box vendor with a very strong presence in Asia, into a global supplier of digital TV solutions with a consolidated presence in over 16 countries. Philippe has operated in the computer, semiconductor and electronic industries for more than 26 years. He built his career at Control Data Corporation, Thomson and STMicroelectronics (ST) before joining ADB. At ST, his ultimate position was Vice-President and General Manager of the Digital Video Division.
David Gillies, Director of Technology, Pace Micro Systems
Alon Meller, Director of IPTV Business Development, Amdocs. Alon has more than 12 years of extensive experience in transforming innovative products and turning them into valuable solutions in areas such as Instant Messaging, Network Intelligence and Fixed-Mobile Convergence. Alon held marketing, business development and operations roles working for various Telecommunications and CRM vendors. Most recently, Alon led the marketing and business development activities at Personeta that pioneered the area of Value Added Service Delivery for both fixed and mobile carriers and making significant contribution in industry forums.
